In Memory of David Walker Chambers OD, PA (“Handsome Dave”)
July 4, 1941 – September 2, 2013. Maitland, Florida
Precision Eye Care offices were formerly owned and operated by the late Dr. David W. Chambers. He passed away September 2, 2013 after a short illness. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Gene T. Chambers, his son and daughter-in-law, Samuel and Mandy Chambers, and his granddaughter, Anabella Chambers.
Dr. Chambers graduated from the University of Houston College of Optometry in 1965. He taught contact lenses and clinical optometry at Southern College of Optometry from 1965 to 1968. He attended graduate school at the University of Tennessee College of Pharmacy from 1968 until 1973.
Dr. Chambers opened his practice in Altamonte Springs Florida in 1974. He started his practice in Mount Dora Florida in 1984, and has maintained both practices through 2013.
Dr. Chambers was an active member of the American Optometric Association from 1979 to 2013. He was active in political optometry and served as President of the Central Florida Optometric Society from 1979 to 1980. He joined the American Academy of Optometry in 1980. He became a charter member of the Contact Lens section of the American Optometric Association in 1980.
A strong believer in continuing education, Dr. Chambers prided himself in attending at least 100 hours of continuing education per year.
Dr. Chambers served his community through his optimist clubs where he was a member since 1974. He served as president of his clubs in 1976-1977, 1978-1980 and served as Lt. Governor in 1980-1981.
David was an enthusiastic, up-beat person who loved his practice, his Optimist work and his time with family and friends.
